Mission Statement

Members of the Association believe that those who engage in criminal and offending behaviour not only impact on society by their actions, but behave as they do in part because they have been impacted upon.

Our clients’ rights to ethical and humane treatment are in no way diminished because they have diminished the rights of others.

We subscribe to the view that therapeutic treatment must go beyond punishment and restraint, and be aimed at healing, and at reducing offending behaviour, giving due regard both to the client’s worth and the need for public protection.

We aim to be as welcoming as possible in bringing together all those practitioners who have a genuine therapeutic interest in working with forensic clients.  To this end, we have four types of membership:

Full Practitioner Membership.  Practitioner Members will have a qualification in psychotherapy, or counselling psychology via a substantive training which as included personal therapy.  They will also have either (a) a qualification in forensic psychotherapy, or (b) two years post qualification supervised practice with forensic clients.

Student Practitioner Membership.  Student Members will currently be attending a recognised training course and will currently be in personal therapy.

Associate Membership.  Associate Members will currently be involved in therapeutic work in a forensic setting.

Special Cases apply to those who do not fit the above criteria but whose membership would clearly be of benefit to the Forensic Therapists Association.

Fees:

£28 - Full Practitioner Membership
£18 - Student Practitioner Membership
£15 - Associate Membership

Last year, each Full Practitioner who attended the Annual Conference would have saved more than the cost of full membership through training cost discounts.
